How to Choose a Full Mouth Implant Consultation

What a full mouth implant consultation should include, questions to ask, costs, and where to get a free assessment across England.

Choose a full mouth implant consultation that includes a clinical examination, a medical history review, 3D imaging such as a CBCT scan, and a written treatment plan with costs and alternatives. You should leave knowing which teeth can be kept, how your new teeth will work, what is included in the price and who provides your aftercare.

In the UK, check your dentist on the General Dental Council (GDC) register and the clinic with the Care Quality Commission (CQC). Implantly offers a free Full Clinical Assessment, including X-rays, CBCT and 3D scans, clinics across England, from London and Birmingham to Manchester, Leicester, Bristol and York.

What is full mouth restoration planning?

Full mouth restoration planning looks at your teeth, gums, jawbone and bite together, then sets out one coordinated plan to restore comfort, function and appearance. It is not simply a booking to place implants.

It does not automatically mean removing all your teeth or treating both jaws. Depending on your mouth, the right plan might include:

  • Keeping and treating some natural teeth
  • Replacing individual teeth with single implants
  • A fixed full arch bridge on implants (often called All-on-4 or All-on-6)
  • Implant-supported or conventional dentures
  • Treatment in one jaw only, or in both

People usually start looking for a full mouth consultation when they have several failing teeth, advanced gum disease, loose or uncomfortable dentures, or significant tooth loss.

What should a full mouth implant consultation include?

A good consultation covers six things. If any are missing, ask why.

  • Assessment of your remaining teeth: establishes which teeth can be saved before any extraction is discussed.
  • Medical history review: conditions, medications (including blood thinners), smoking and previous surgery all affect risk and planning.
  • 3D CBCT scan and digital records: shows bone volume, nerves and sinus position, which decide where implants can go.
  • Bite and smile planning: your new teeth must meet properly, look natural and support your face.
  • Risks and alternatives explained: implants can develop complications, and you should hear all the options, including not treating.
  • Written plan and fixed quote: lets you compare clinics on what is actually included.

An honest look at your remaining teeth

Ask which teeth can realistically be kept, why any extractions are recommended and what the alternatives are. A clinician should never recommend removing healthy teeth simply to fit a full arch bridge.

Imaging used for planning, not just marketing

A CBCT scan gives a three-dimensional view of your jaw. Intraoral scans record your teeth and gums digitally. Together they allow guided surgery, where implant positions are planned on a computer before treatment. Imaging should be prescribed when clinically justified.

A plan for the teeth, not just the implants

The implants are the foundation. The bridge on top is what you eat, speak and smile with. Ask about tooth shape and colour, how upper and lower teeth will meet, whether your temporary teeth are fixed or removable, and which material your final teeth will be made from, such as PMMA or zirconia.

Long-term maintenance

Ask how you will clean around the bridge, how often you need reviews and hygiene visits, and what happens if a tooth chips or an implant does not heal as expected. See our aftercare guide.

10 questions to ask at your implant consultation

Take this checklist to your appointment:

  1. Which of my teeth can be saved, and why do any need removing?
  2. Do I need treatment in one jaw or both?
  3. How many implants do you recommend, and why that number?
  4. Who will assess me, who will place the implants, and who designs my new teeth?
  5. How many full arch cases do you treat, and can I see before and after photos?
  6. Will I have fixed teeth on the day of surgery, or a removable denture while I heal?
  7. What material will my final teeth be, and how long should it last?
  8. What does the written quote include: scans, extractions, temporary teeth, final teeth, sedation, aftercare?
  9. What happens if an implant fails or the bridge breaks, and what does the warranty cover?
  10. Where will I go for surgery and for follow-up appointments?

You can check any dentist on the General Dental Council register. A dentist who focuses on implants is not the same as a GDC-listed specialist; if someone is described as a specialist, check the specialist list.

A good consultation leaves you understanding the treatment and the reasons for it. You do not have to decide on the day.

What happens at an Implantly Full Clinical Assessment?

Implantly's Full Clinical Assessment is free and establishes whether full mouth implant treatment is right for you. It includes:

  1. A consultation with an implant clinician about your concerns and goals
  2. A clinical examination of your teeth, gums and bite
  3. A review of your medical history and medications
  4. Digital X-rays, a 3D CBCT scan and intraoral scans, as clinically appropriate
  5. A discussion of your options and a personalised treatment plan

Photos or a phone call can help with an initial enquiry, but they cannot replace the clinical assessment needed for a definitive plan. See the full treatment journey.

How the treatment journey usually runs

  1. Full Clinical Assessment: examination, imaging and treatment planning
  2. Implant placement: guided surgery, typically 3–4 hours depending on complexity; fixed temporary teeth can be fitted on the day where clinically suitable
  3. Healing: implants integrate with the jawbone, typically over 8–12 weeks
  4. Final teeth: your permanent bridge is made from new digital scans for a precise fit

How much does a full mouth implant consultation and treatment cost?

The Implantly assessment is free. Treatment is offered at fixed prices, with payment plans available:

  • Full mouth implants, single jaw (PMMA): £12,995
  • Implantly Advanced, both jaws (PMMA): £14,995
  • Implantly Ultimate, both jaws (zirconia): £15,495

Whichever clinic you choose, ask for a written quote that lists what is included and any potential extra charges, and check the warranty terms before paying a deposit.

What should I bring to my consultation?

  • An up-to-date medication list and relevant medical information
  • Details of previous dental or implant treatment
  • Your dentures, if you wear them
  • Any recent X-rays or scans
  • Notes on foods you struggle with, denture problems or concerns about your smile
  • Your questions about treatment, costs and recovery

If you are nervous about dental treatment, mention it when you book so the team can talk through support, including whether conscious sedation may be suitable. Do not stop any prescribed medication unless your doctor tells you to.

Frequently asked questions

Is a full mouth implant consultation free?

At Implantly, yes. The Full Clinical Assessment is free and includes X-rays, a CBCT scan and 3D scans. Other clinics may charge, so ask before booking.

Where can I get a full mouth implant consultation near Walsall?

Implantly's nearest clinic to Walsall is Euro Dental Care in Harborne, Birmingham (B32 2DY), for assessment and aftercare. Implant surgery takes place at a surgical centre, usually Leicester for West Midlands patients.

Can I have a consultation if I already wear dentures?

Yes. Many people with dentures are assessed for implant-supported teeth. Wearing dentures does not, by itself, rule you in or out.

Can I be assessed if I have bone loss or gum disease?

Yes. Your clinician will review your mouth, medical history and CBCT imaging to explain your options. Gum disease is treated and stabilised before implants. A consultation does not guarantee implants will be possible.

Will I get fixed teeth on the day of surgery?

Where clinically suitable, fixed temporary teeth can be fitted on the day of surgery. This depends on your clinical findings and implant stability. Ask what happens if immediate fixed teeth are not appropriate for you.

Do I need implants in both jaws?

Not necessarily. Each jaw is assessed separately. Implantly offers single-jaw and both-jaw treatment.

Are full mouth dental implants available on the NHS?

Dental implants are not routinely available on the NHS. Implantly provides treatment privately, with payment plans available.

How long does full mouth implant treatment take?

Surgery typically takes 3–4 hours. The implants then heal for around 12–14 weeks before your final teeth are fitted. Longer timelines are possible if extra procedures are needed.
